The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Jordan has awarded its 2017 Youth Empowerment Award award to RC's Reem Nyaz for her work empowering Syrian girls in the aftermath of the US travel ban.
Reem herself and her family were preparing for their resettlement in Arkansas before the ban came down. But in February 2017, her hopes were destroyed. Instead of despairing, Reem re-committed herself to her work at RC, expanding her coaching to dozens of new girls in the Marka Janoobia and Marka Shemalia neighborhoods, and training herself in case management to better serve her players. The RC team is proud to see Reem get the recognition she deserves!
